英文圣经的翻译简史

圣经原文为希伯来语,亚兰文和希腊文。

公元四世纪期间St. Jerome把圣经翻译成拉丁文的圣经通用本,Vulgate意思是“共同的”或“所有人的”。
公元7世纪Caedmus把《圣经》里的一些篇章改编成英文歌曲。。
公元10世纪一些《新约》的篇章被翻译成英语。
1494-1546丁道尔(William Tyndale) (1494-1546)首次把整本圣经翻译成英文原版。
1603詹姆斯国王(King James) 于1603年掌权后,有鉴于早期圣经的不同版本在文体和教义上出现矛盾,詹姆斯国王委托学者作出修订。这是英王詹姆士时期的译本King James Version(英王钦定本)。
公元19世纪英王钦定本其后作出修订,修订版本包括国王詹姆士修订版本(1885)、修订标准版(1952),新修订的标准版(1989),英国标准版(2001)。
今天, 市面流行的英文圣经版本包括The Living Translation (1971年),它是由American Standard Version(1901)按照现代英语修订而成;The Good News Bible (1976)-由现代美国圣经学会(American Bible Society)出版,行文浅白易懂。而 New International Version (1978)所使用的英语,则介于King James Bible和浅白的Good News Bible之间。
