bible verse
“At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other”
meaning
origin and application
Jesus was crucified and rose again three days after his death. Before his death, he told his disciples that he would come again, “on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory”. This is the “second coming”, a time when he reappears and sits in judgment over all nations. But this time of second coming cannot be expected – because “the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”(Matt 24:44) Jesus warned people to be ready for this day, as a house owner would have kept watch on his house as if he had known the coming of the thief (Matt 24:43).
The second coming is frequently drawn upon as a literary theme by poets and writers, among them is William Butler Yeats, the Nobel prize laureate and poet, who penned a poem entitled “The Second Coming” in November 1920.
