The name does not appear in the Bible. It is the Latinate form of Eve which was derived from the Hebrew name “Chava”, meaning “life”. In Genesis 2:21 of the Old Testament, Eve was the first woman made of one of Adam’s ribs. She was also the wife of Adam and the mother of all the living. The name was given by Adam.
