올리브는 요즘에 평화와 비슷한 뜻을 가집니다. 왜 그런지 아십니까? 노아시대에 홍수가 40일 주야로 계속 되었고 방주에 있던 노아의 가족들과 동물들을 제외하곤 모든 생명체가 멸종되었습니다. 물이 150일 동안 차 있었습니다. 노아가 물의 높이를 측정하기 위해 처음에 큰 까마귀 한 마리를 보냅니다. 물로 가득 차 있어 착륙할 수 있는 땅을 발견할 수 없었기 때문에 이 까마귀는 계속 왔다갔다 합니다. 다음엔 노아가 비둘기 한 마리를 보냅니다. 그도 착륙할 땅을 찾을 수 없었습니다. 7일 후에, 비둘기를 다시 보냈고, 이번에는 올리브 잎과 함께 돌아옵니다! 이 일후부터 올리브는 오늘날 평화와 화해의 상징이 되었습니다. 이것은 홍수 이후에 인류와 화해하겠다는 하나님의 싸인입니다. 스웨덴의 노벨상 박물관에 있는 올리브 가지는 노벨 평화상을 상징하는 것이 되었습니다.
