먼저 돌로 친다는 것은 조급하게 비난하거나 정죄한다는 뜻입니다.

기원과 적용

“먼저 돌로 치라”는 성경 신약에서 나오는 표현입니다. 서기관과 바리새인은 종종 질투심에 가득 차 사람들 앞에서 예수님을 곤경에 빠트리고 싶어했습니다. 그러던 어느 날, 그들이 간음한 여인을 예수님 앞으로 데려와 말했습니다, “주님, 간음을 저지르는 현장에서 바로 잡힌 여인입니다. 모세의 율법에 따르면 우리는 이 여인을 돌로 쳐 죽여야 합니다. 그래서 선생님의 의견을 듣고 싶습니다.” 그 사람들은 예수님을 궁지로 몰아 넣었다고 착각했습니다. 그러나 예수님께서는 “이 중에서 죄가 없는 자가 있다면, 그에게 먼저 이 여인에게 돌을 던지도록 하라.” 라고 대답하셨습니다. 이 말을 들은 사람들은 나이 순으로 하나 둘 그 곳을 떠났습니다. 그들의 죄를 깨달았던 것이지요. 결국 그곳에는 그 여인과 예수님밖에 남지 않았습니다.
