The Bible has been the most influential text in all of Western culture. It's difficult to understand medieval or early modern or much of modern literature without knowing it...

Judgment Day (Matthew 10:15, Revelation 20:15)

bible verse

“I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.”(Matthew 10:15)
“If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15)

origin and application

What will happen on the day of judgment, and when? On the day of judgment, people will be judged according to their past deeds, attitudes and inclinations. Jesus, in the Gospel of Matthew, warned that those who do not believe in God will be no better than the fate of people in Sodom or Gomorrah, who are notorious for their sins and wickedness. Their names would not be found in the book of life, and they would suffer in the lake of fire. The time of this day cannot be predicted, because it comes as a thief in the night that catches people off guard.
