bible verse
“Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance.”(KJV)
meaning
A very small quantity that has very little effect.
origin and application
Isaiah was a prophet in Judah, south of Israel, when Hezekiah was king. King Hezekiah’s palace was filled with riches and treasures – silver, gold, spices, fine oil, and his entire armoury, amongst others. Isaiah foretold that all these treasures in the palace would one day be carried off to Babylon, for the king of Babylon would overtake his reign. For what the nations had, they were like a drop in a bucket compared to the omnipotence of God, for God is all-knowing and all-encompassing.
example
