1 Samuel 1:1

Meaning

It came from the Hebrew name שְׁמוּאֵל (Shemu’el), meaning “name of God” or “God has heard”. According to the Old Testament, Samuel was a prophet who went from place to place to urge people to repent. He was also a judge who gave advice to the nation as well as individuals, and anointed Saul to be the first king of Israel.
