Matthew 1

Meaning

It came from the Greek name Ματθαιος (Matthaios) which originated from the Hebrew name מַתִּתְיָהוּ (Mattityahu), meaning “gift of God”. Biblically, Matthew was a tax collector known as Levi before becoming one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was the author of the Gospel of Matthew.
