Bible Verse:
“Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.” (Revelation 16:16)
Meaning:
Armageddon is figuratively used to describe the total destruction of a final battle.
Origin and Application:
Armageddon is the future field of battle between Christ and Antichrist, and Christ will be victorious. Armageddon is thought by some Christians to be the Mount of Megiddo in Israel. Since this battle will be sudden and unexpected, Christians are expected to be ready for the battle. Armageddon (1998) is also the title of an Academy Award-nominated science fiction film, starring Bruce Willis. It is about a group of deep-core drillers who are sent by NASA to deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.
